About Matthew
I am a 42 year old self taught, award winning photographer from Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Whilst admiring photography from my late teenage years, it was only in 2008 at the age of 34, that I first decided to purchase my first DSLR camera. Since getting my first DSLR camera, there has been no turning back.
I won the Belfast Telegraph’s One Summers Day Photography Competition (my first ever competition), in August 2010. My image of Cavehill Mountain overlooking the city of Belfast was judged the overall winner.
Inspired by my One Summers Day Photography Competition win, I joined a photography club in September 2010 to learn more about photography. In September 2011, I won three awards at my club’s annual exhibition. I won The Frank Rowe Cup for my image entitled “Little Japanese Boy”, The Neil Marshall Cup for my image entitled “The Drummer” and I also received a Highly Commended Award for my image entitled “Mai Chan”. All the above awards were all won in the novices section of the photography club’s annual exhibition.
In March 2012, I came second in the Jessops Northern Ireland Region Photography Competition with my image entitled “The Dark Hedges”. Subsequently, for a second time, I won the Belfast Telegraph’s One Summers Day Photography Competition in September 2012 with my image entitled, “The Story Of Summer.”
At any given opportunity, I will be out and about with a camera in my hands. Whether it is at a family gathering or out for a stroll along the beach, I’ll be somewhere taking photographs of places that are of interest to me.
I am available for family/personal portraits, commission work, engagement shoots, weddings, corporate events, private parties and gigs of any kind. I also carry out restoration work to damaged photographs.
